Lewis and Wren, despite their differences, are madly in love and are excited to begin their life together. The honeymoon phase is short lived as tragedy strikes within the first few weeks of their new marriage. Lewis, is diagnosed with a rare mutation that will transform him into a Great White Shark; not only physically, but the urges, mood shifts, and impulses that accompany one of the planet’s most adept and efficient predators. The story follows Wren and Lewis’s attempts to adjust to this diagnosis, her history of similar tragedy, and the difficulty of learning to live in the aftermath of a loss that was always meant to occur.

I’ve never read anything quite like this gorgeous debut novel. It is funny and charming, and yet heartbreaking in a way that squeezes muscles in your chest you’re only aware exist in moments of deep sadness. It made me reflect; what does it really mean to be Human? We are animals, afterall.

I read this in 2 days, I couldn’t put it down! Run, don’t walk, to add this to your list.
